Over 1 million passengers fly into, out of KCI Airport. Which airlines have largest share?

More than 1.1 million passengers arrived and departed out of Kansas City International Airport in July, marking the third consecutive month of more than a million travelers, the Kansas City Aviation Department reported Monday.

The passenger count for July was up nearly 21% from 932,878 passengers who arrived and departed from MCI in July 2022, the aviation department reported.

Passengers boardings were up 21.4% last month, with a total of 565,613 boarded.

So far this year, 3.3 million passengers have boarded flights out of KCI, up 20.5%. Total passengers in and out of the airport is nearly 6.6 million for the first six months, up 20.3% over same period in last year, according to the aviation department.

When it came to passenger boardings, Southwest Airlines continued to be the busiest airline by far at the airport, with a 48.1% market share for the month. The closet competitors included Delta Air Lines at 17.7%. American Airlines at 14.9% and United Airlines at 10.3%

Alaska Airlines had a 2.8% market share for the month while Spirit Airlines had a 2.5%.

The number of peak-day scheduled aircraft departures for the month was 161, with service offered to 51 nonstop markets. There was an average of 45,754 arriving and departing seats each day, the aviation department reported.

Meanwhile, air carriers handled 18.5 million pounds of freight and mail, which was down 14.1% in July. For the year, 135.2 million pounds of air cargo has been handled, which is down 9.1% over the same period last year.
